Nunhead Arts Week will be even more brilliant than ever. It starts with a Private View (everyone invited) of wonderful art at Nunhead Open 6 Exhibition at Nunhead Community Centre, Nunhead Lane, 6-9pm, Friday, 18 September. The art exhibition continues 12-6pm, 19-21 Sept and 25-27 Sept. Plus, there’s the launch of the Window Project, art for local shop windows.
Saturday morning, 19 Sept, there’s a life-drawing workshop at the Community Centre. At noon on Nunhead Green, the annual urban fete, known as Green Day, promises fun for all the family, including a blacksmith at work, music from Dynamo Cabaret, bike and print workshops and street art. The Happy Band, artists, musicians and wordsmiths, will provide extra entertainment. New artwork by Nicky Hodge is at 123 Evelina Road both weekends.
Sunday, 20 Sept, there’s lunchtime jazz at the Old Nuns Head, Nunhead Green as well as Beer and Poems at The Restaurant, Evelina Road. Both start at 1pm. For young children, there’s theatre, 3pm, at Tenants Hall, Buchan Road. It’s the Old Nuns Head for afternoon tea and stand-up from VG Lee, the lesbian comic writer, who will read from her book, 4pm.
The Graceful Travellers, writer/photographers Joan Byrne, Anne-Marie Glasheen, Pia Randall-Goddard, will perform readings and show small exhibitions of their photography at Nunhead Library, 7-8:30pm Tuesday, 22 Sept.
Enjoy Nunhead’s favourite long-running Easycome Music Night upstairs at the Old Nuns Head, 8pm, Wednesday, 23 Sept.
The Brew Band will play at the Pyrotechnics Arms, Nunhead Green, and there’s a BBQ, too, 3-7pm Thursday, 24 Sept. Later, there’s Family Reading, 5:30-6:30pm, at Nunhead Library.
There’s a celebration of older people at Limes Tree House, Dundas Road, 10am-3pm, Friday, 25 Sept, including a screening of Mama Mia. In the evening choose between Pull The Other One comedy starring Simon Munnery, Kevin Eldon and Dr Brown at The Ivy House, Stuart Road, or upstairs at the Old Nuns Head, a screening of El Bano del Papo. Both start at 8pm.
On Saturday, 26 Sept, Lady Lucy brings the Drawing Exchange to Nunhead Community Centre, 2-5pm. And, throughout the weekend, artist Sarah Sparkes and guests respond to the absence of community at the Community Centre.
On Sunday, 27 Sept, to round things off, there’s the popular Nunhead Walk led by historian Ron Woolacott; meet at11:30am, Nunhead Green. Most events are free. Details at http://nunheadarts.blog.com/
